List of Provisions not in Force

The Statutes Repeal Act (SRA) helps ensure that consideration is given to bringing legislation into force. Until laws come into force, they are not binding and have no legal effect.

The annual reports list provisions of Acts that have not been brought into force within 9 years of their enactment. All the listed laws will be repealed at the end of the year (that is, on December 31 of the year of the report) unless they are brought into force or are repealed before that date or a resolution of one House of Parliament defers their repeal.

Deferrals

Pursuant to section 3 of the Statutes Repeal Act, S.C. 2008, c. 20, the Senate, in the December 9, 2014 sesión, resolved that the Act and the provisions of the other Acts listed below, which have not come into force in the period since their adoption, not be repealed:

Repeals

Pursuant to section 4 of the Statutes Repeal Act, chapter 20 of the Statutes of Canada, 2008, the DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRY, OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR GENERAL, in January 26, 2015, established that the following provisions were repealed on December 31, 2014, by the operation of section 3 of the Statutes Repeal Act.

2. An Act to amend the Criminal Code (firearms) and the Firearms Act, S.C. 2003, c. 8, sections 26 to 35 and 37
3. Public Safety Act, 2002, S.C. 2004, c. 15, section 5 (with respect to subsection 4.82(11) of the Aeronautics Act), subsections 37(2) and 38(1), (3) and (5) and sections 51 (with respect to section 28 of the Explosives Act), 73 (with respect to the heading before section 11.1 of the Marine Transportation Security Act), 74 (with respect to the definition of “Minister” in subsection 2(1) of the National Defence Act), 80, 81 and 104 (with respect to the heading before section 8.1 and the portion of subsection 8.1(1) before paragraph (c) of the Canada Shipping Act)
